TREATMENT

Gout treatments include medications such as allopurinol to lower uric acid and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories and colchicine decrease inflammation. The goal is to lower uric acid to the point that the gout crystals to dissolve. Changes in diet and lifestyle can help with gout management and prevent flares. Cutting back on drinking alcohol, weight loss, avoiding purine rich foods or those high in sugar or fructose can be helpful.
